So many times, people think that the answers to their problems lie "out there". What are you like when probelms don't exist for you?
It is a good reminder that we have invauable tools within that serve us better than we think.
It has been said that when it comes to matters of self development, perhaps a
more useful pursuit is in the quest for better questions rather than looking for
good answers to poorly asked ones. In the case of this particular question, this
proves itself to be right on the money in showing an example of this point.
The answer to this question, as statement is, there isn't, from the the standpoint
of the usual and "normal" sense that self is used. There is a world of difference
in the language of Enlightenment between self with a little s and Self with a big
S. Assuming that there is an actual desire to experience the experience referred
to in the question, there are more useful ways of going about it. I would rather
speak about spiritual enlightenment in plain language, rather than flowery, pretty
sounding but with no practical application language.
One way that I could do this is to refer to many writings on quantum physics
and it's relationship to it, but there are many essays written by much more qualified
individuals than I. The only reason I mention it is that it is good bridge so to
speak for lack of a better word between a language of science, (the most highly
respected "religion" of the day - but that again is the subject of another
writing) and the leap into a glimpse into the nature of what we are.
Another way I would answer it is to stop looking to yourself. (Small s).
It is rather like the eye trying to see itself. Look outside. Be in the world. Want
to know where you show up? Look at the "footprints" you leave behind in the interactions
you have and you'll see it, clear as day.
what does enlightenment mean?
This question, would be a good first line line in one of those For Dummies books.
It's useful to know what you're looking for before you spend time and energy perusing
it. One answer, one that I think is succinct for the purposes of this is: discovering
who we really are beyond conditions and relationships, beyond our ordinary sense
of self. Rather than look for an answer, look for in the sense of aesthetic satisfaction,
like the experience you have in the moment of something like a Rumi poem or the
experience you have when you are overcome by a sunset or being present to the experience
of the birth of a child.
experience enlightenment
In order to experience it, you only need to be aware of how you are when you
are literally who you are. It is not a matter of getting anywhere. It is a matter
of simply reverting back to a natural nature, and allowing that to be the way you
experience the world. It is not necessary to sit on a mountaintop, or to renounce
the world or become something other than we already are. We can, and it is my opinion
that it is ultimately easier to experience it in the world, while in contact with
everyday situations and dealing with people in ordinary circumstances.
